Setting up your counter tablet

Updated 16 Jul 2026

In short: Put the STREET Partner app on a tablet next to your till, plugged in and open all day. That is your order alarm.

Why a tablet by the till

STREET orders are same-day, so a new order is waiting on someone in the shop to accept it within a short window. A phone in a pocket misses that too easily: locked screen, silent mode, one quiet ping. Every delivery platform ends up in the same place, a dedicated device at the counter where the open app does the alerting. Any spare Android tablet or iPad works, including older ones. It does not need to be new or fast.

Install it as an app

Open retailer.street.london in the tablet's browser, log in, then add it to the home screen so it runs full-screen like a normal app:

  • iPad: in Safari, tap the Share icon, then Add to Home Screen.
  • Android tablet: in Chrome, tap the three dots, then Add to Home screen (sometimes shown as Install app).
  • Computer at the counter: in Chrome, click the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar.

From then on, open it from the home screen icon, not the browser.

Keep it plugged in and open

Leave the app open whenever your store is open on STREET. While you are logged in it keeps the screen awake by itself, and it quietly updates itself, so there is nothing to maintain. Just keep the tablet on charge; a screen that is always on runs a battery down in an afternoon.

Say yes to notifications

The first time you open the app it asks to send notifications. Allow it. If they ever end up off, the app shows an amber banner on the orders screen and walks you through turning them back on for your exact device.

What a new order sounds like

A new order plays a chime that repeats every few seconds until someone answers it. It stops the moment you accept or decline. If you hear it, the customer is waiting, so it helps to get to it quickly (see Accepting Orders).

More than one person answering orders

Staff can have their own logins rather than sharing yours. Ask us (see Get Help) and we set a staff account up on the spot; it works immediately and the staff member gets an email to set their own password. Everyone at the same location sees the same incoming orders, and the moment one person accepts an order it clears from every other device, so there is no risk of two people packing the same thing.

Worth knowing: your phone still works as a second device. Log in on it for when you step away from the counter, but treat it as the backup, not the alarm.
